English 101 - Chapter 2 Prompt

Chapter 2 Prompt

This week I have communicated through writing in many different ways. I have written:

-Several blog posts for English 101
-An analysis essay on the elite theory for American Government
-A critical thinking essay for Psychology
-A variation of emails to family, friends, teachers, peers, and co-workers
-Several text messages
-A memo to my dad
-Many sheets of notes from classes

The three subjects I think are the most varying are my several blog posts for English 101, my analysis essay for American Government, and lastly my memo to my dad.

One way I wrote this week was through blogging for my English 101 class. I had a closed audience that was intended for my followers and my teacher. In my blogs my purpose was to accomplish an assignment or an in-class lab that I did collaboratively. The chief topic I covered in my blogs has been the differences between authors and writers. When I wrote these posts my tone was mostly formal, for my audience was looking for clear and official points.

Another way I wrote was by writing an analysis essay that was due for my American Government class. My audience was my professor, but possibly open to my classmates. The purpose of my paper was to analyze the elite theory and how the public views higher authority. On this paper my stance was toward the elite and not the public, for several reasons which I will not disclose. I typed my essay which included several outside resources and used a formal tone.

Finally, I wrote a memo to my dad. The audience was private and intended for my father only. In my memo my purpose was to remind my dad of an upcoming event that he might have forgotten. The tone I used was very casual and personal, and it was handwritten on the back of a receipt.
